Course : Introduction to Futures Thinking and Future Consciousness

This introductory futures course reviews and synthesizes both global and personal futures. Part one covers the psychology of wisdom and future consciousness and offers personal approaches, derived from contemporary psychological research, to enhancing these capacities. Part two examines the historical evolution of diverse forms of future consciousness and futures thinking, including mythological, religious, philosophical, and scientific perspectives, as well as science fiction. Part three covers contemporary global trends and future possibilities and presents an overview of contemporary futurist thought. The central course assignment is the creation of an individualized learning portfolio from which students will develop an ideal futures self-narrative set within the context of global futures possibilities. How can the individual thrive within an envisioned hypothetical future and contribute to the ongoing evolution of humanity?
