The new Masters Program in Foresight and Innovation is a great idea. Every business, organization, educational institution,
and government should be on top of emerging trends impacting their field of work and operation, so that they can be proactive in planning for their
futures and aware of emerging opportunities, as well as problems, that can impact their area of work. This new MA Program will provide students with
emerging substantive developments in many areas, their interrelationships, as well as various methodologies for studying the future. This will prepare
the students for jobs in a rapidly changing world, and will give these students an edge for dealing with change over others without such a preparation.

In recent years the changing status of the global system has given rise to increasing concern. While some speak of a global transition others perceive a global emergency with no simple answers, no easy exits. A few see outright disaster and a premature end of the human experiment. Whatever one’s view it’s clear that humanity is challenged as never before to pay attention to signals of change at every scale and to respond with as much foresight and wisdom as it possibly can.
Strangely, however, the number of advanced programs offering higher degrees in futures and foresight related disciplines has not greatly increased over recent years. It’s therefore a great pleasure to welcome the new International Masters in Foresight and Innovation at Angers University headed by my valued colleague Dr Goux-Baudiment. The program contains many new and innovative aspects and is certain to attract a wide range of talented people who are seeking to understand and deal with our dynamically evolving world. Foresight and innovation are not merely current ‘buzz words.’ They are two essential components of viable futures that apply equally in both technical and human contexts.
